Viel Spass
Hoi
Ich bin der Saaibestrijding-Kunstler, das 'Blog zum Thema'. And now I prefer some words in english. Like many dutch people I am not an experienced writer in German and that would result in too many mistakes! I was really surprized to find Saaibestrijding being discussed on this forum. I made (and make it, take a look and feel free to comment, auf deutsch auch OK, I will translate it!) together with my wife (she does most of the photography) to show and encourage others to break the silence which prevents heavily real creativity on the subject of male clothing.
Indeed, skirts are a very important item in Saaibestrijding, and I wear them often in daily life. Saaibestrijding clothing is not for showing, I wear everything everywhere and not only on special occasions. For me, this is not difficult at all. It is simply part of my life and nothing special. But, being a professional artist, I must state that I do have lots of freedom to wear clothing which is not ordinary. Artists are often seen as a bit strange, and that can be easy!
But, outside the Euregion near Aachen (Maastricht) where I live, work and am well-known, I am an unknown like everybody. And, surprisingly, I found out that it is everywhere easy to wear skirts, long, shorter, and extremely short (over tights), in public life. Perhaps it helps a lot that most of my skirts are designed exclusively as male clothing. Never I received any comments, other then compliments on the street! The same with a small exhibition in Maastricht about Saaibestrijding.
Do I wear skirts which are expensive; or difficult to find? Not at all. Most of the people who designed and/or made objects for my Saaibestrijding collection have 'shops' on sites like Etsy or Dawanda. You can contact them, ask if they can ceate something, discuss a bit by e-mail the details and a few weeks later you have your skirt.
As you can see in Saaibestrijding, my search for freedom in clothing goes far beyond the skirt for men. I feel it as a bit poor to focus only on skirts, as there are many other things, now seen as exclusively female, which were once a normal part of the male clothing (tights, heels, lace, etc)
If you want to answer, feel free to use German of course!
